"DRAGON, GRIFFIN" PADLOCK

I never have sen a padlock with this design before. Guess it does not come up for auction very often:

Lock is 2 1/2" tall and 1 3/4" wide. A dragon is embossed on the front. EAGLE LOCK CO. TERRYVILLE, CONN. U.S.A. is stamped on theback. No damage to this lock, it just shows its' age. It works fine and the shackle springs open when the key is operated. An excellent lock for your collection. - eBay

This padlock sold for $96 (Plus $2 Shipping).

US Bureau of Industrial Alcohol Seal Padlock

The following is a seal lock used by the United States Bureau of Industrial Alcohol Seal Padlock during prohabition times:

Offered here is an old, but mint condition brass lock marked Slaymaker, Lanc. PA. It's in perfect working condition at 2 1/2" wide by 3 3/4" long by 3/4" deep. Markings include: U.S. B.I.R. The front "cap" slides easily to your left to access the key hole, and the key, marked 12038/just like the lock, fits perfectly and turns smoothly. When opened fully, the "cap" area drops down as shown in the photos. Please use the click to enlarge feature, as this item isn't returnable. It's a heavy piece and shipping cost must reflect that issue. - eBay

This lock sold for $204.05 (Plus $8.50 Shipping). I have one other lock of this type posted here: Alcohol Prohibition Slaymaker Seal Lock. that lock went for $200.50.

Interesting variation in making the bows solid. Definately much more heavy duty.

This set of handcuffs sold for $56 (Plus $10 shipping).

Another Manhole Cover Key

It was listed as an "ANTIQUE HUGE BRASS SKELETON LOCK KEY 6 INCH 1/2LB KEY", but it sure looks like a manhole cover key.

THIS UNUSUAL LARGE BRASS SKELETON KEY MEASURES 6 INCHES LONG AND 4 INCHES WIDE. IT HAS A (D) STAMPED ON ONE SIDE AND A (S) I THINK STAMPED ON OTHER SIDE OF HANDLE. IT IS VERY HEAVY 1/2LB OR MORE. I AM NOT SURE WHAT THIS FITS. NEVER SEEN ONE LIKE THIS. GREAT KEY FOR ANY LOCK COLLECTION. - eBay

I already listed one here. I listed this one because this one sold. It sold for $9.99 (Plus $4.55 Shipping).

No-Key Brass Combination Padlock with Combination and Box

Here is another great example of the No-Key combination lock. This one comes complete with combination and the original box:

This is an old brass no key padlock. It was made by "The Edwards Mfg. Co. Cinn. O. Pat 9-17-07 04-27-09" (marked on the shackle). The body is marked No-Key Trademark. It has 8 buttons that stick out from the front to the back. If you press one of the numbers up and two numbers down at the same time it will open.

It comes with the original combination paper and box.

Measurements are 2 3/4" H by 1 7/8" W - eBay

This lock sold for $277.97 (Plus $5.60 Shipping). Seems that there is a $100+ premium if the lock comes with an original box. There was another similar auction recently (See: No-Key - 'New' in Box). That one also went for $277. Did someone else see that auction and put in the high bid for that lock making it the going price?

1920s WINCHESTER PADLOCK "RAREST MODEL"

There is rare, and then there is rare and expensive. I suspect that this lock got the bids it did partly because it was manufactured by Winchester.

Up for auction is the rarest of all Winchester padlocks. This lock can be found on page 661 of the standard catalog of Winchester and is in excellent working condition with no rust or corrosion and The shackle and dust cover have very strong spring tension. This is the toughest Winchester lock to find and is usually the one lock that everyone needs to complete there Winchester lock collection. It comes with its original key. As is with all of my auctions This lock is gaurenteed to be original and authentic and not reproduction junk. Please check out my other auctions as I am listing many rare Winchester items this week. They are doubles from my collection from trying to upgrade. - eBay

So here is a good example of the cost of finishing that lock collection. Me, I prefer to collect locks that I find appealing. This does not even look vey nice, other than as something to fill the hole in the collection.

This lock sold for $1,010.99 (Plus $7.50 Shipping).

Marlin Fire Arms Co. 1st. Model handcuffs

Bottleneck handcuffs are great. I have still to find the right set for me. This pair is in great condition:

Up for auction is this exquisite pair of First Model MARLIN handcuffs in impeccable condition. The cuffs have their original bright nickel finish, and would be considered in fine condition, and are accompanied by an original Marlin handcuff key! Each lock case is marked as follows; MARLIN FIRE ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN CT. USA. . This first model is distinguishable by the bulbous lock case.

There are a few very minute areas that have a spot of darkness or discoloration. I have done my best to photograph these areas. Please keep in mind that some of the images were taken with a Super Macro lens, and these pictures appear more dramatic than to the naked eye. The cuffs were very hard to photograph because of the bright nickel is highly reflective.

The cuffs are very clean, and do not have any grim or dirt in the locks, hinges, or ratchet groves.

This is a VERY RARE opportunity for someone to acquire this very desirable pair of Marlin Fire Arms Co. handcuffs in high end collector condition. In 30 years of collecting, this is only the second pair in this condition I have seen! - eBay

and:

Question & Answer
Q: Would you mind telling me what you mean by these being first models by the bulbous lock case, exactly what is that or what do you mean? Both first and second models look similar. Both obviously have the bottle neck looking locks. I know the first models have three chain links instead of the barrel link of the second models and the bottle neck part is a little larger then the second models of 1910 or so. Thanks, Mike Jan-16-09

A: Hello Mike. The lock case is the bottle shape portion. The three rings are not a definitive way to determine the difference between a first and second model. I have had several second model Marlins with the smaller lock case or bottleneck. All first model Marlins did have a larger diameter (bulbous) lock case or bottleneck that the hasp is secured by. Hope this helps, Shawn

This set had a high bid of $577.76 (Plus $10.50 Shipping) but failed to go above the reserve price.

Super-Heavy Chinese-Made Cuffs

Very interesting and really good overkill in terms of restraint, which makes it really cool:

The listing can be found here (Eiserne Handschellen-POLIZEI-Sammlerstück China NEW) but the listing is in German. These would be nicer if they had true locks instead of what appears to be a concealed screw lock.

These cuffs are listed with a 'Buy-it-Now' price of 289 Euros / $383 (Plus 32 Euros Shipping).
